Websites are a significant cornerstone of marketing for any business. The chances are that your website will be the first place someone interacts with your business. First, you’ve got to make sure people can find your website, traffic as it’s known to us in the industry. When we’re talking about websites, we consider two main factors, traffic and conversions.

Traffic always has to come first. If your website isn’t being visited, you cant hope to convert visitors into customers. In this article, we go over five easy ways to boost your website traffic.

1 – Keywords

By far, the most important thing for any business is to have the right keywords on your website. Keywords are words that you associate with your business that a customer would type into Google when looking for the service or product you provide.

For example, if you’re an electrician, then ‘electrician’ would be a good keyword. You should also use more complicated ones (long-tail) such as ‘light not working’. An excellent way to check for long-tail keywords is to go to google and search for your product or service. Google will automatically suggest what other people are searching to indicate what words to use.

You should ensure that your page descriptions, headings, and images on your website have keywords attached. This can be pretty technical, but you should take time to learn – there are loads of tutorials on YouTube to show you how to tweak your web pages, and we wrote an article that covers the basics.

Ultimately, if you’re not comfortable amending your website, you can buy Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) services from a company like ours.

2 – Google Business Profile – GBP

There are two elements to SEO, Keywords that will allow anyone searching to find you and local SEO. Your business model will depend on what type of SEO you focus on, although both are important. If you’re a local electrician, you don’t want people asking you to help when they’re hundreds of miles away.

Google is by far the most popular search engine. You’ll have seen it yourself; when you search for a service, you’ll get results from google maps of businesses that are local to you. The easiest way (and free) of appearing in search results of local customers is by creating a google my business profile.

To ensure you keep showing up, you’ll need to keep posting on it with photos or videos and encourage customers to leave reviews to boost your profile. Remember to answer any questions and respond to reviews both negative and positive. That helps demonstrate that you are a trustworthy business and care about your customers.

3 – Citations

A somewhat dull task, but essential to help build backlinks and improve your website traffic. Search for free business directories such as yell.com and add your business details such as phone number, address and your web address on each one. There are loads out there, and it will take a lot of time and effort, but it will bring in traffic.

4 – Promote

Social media is huge these days, so make sure you have company pages on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Update and post regularly and join community groups and share your posts to these pages. Ensure that you’ve got your website details across all of your social platforms and any media you use, such as signs, vans and email.

5 – Content

Content is king. Search engines look to provide quality content to their users. If you generate new relevant content on your website regularly, you will be rewarded with traffic. It’s helpful to have a plan to stick to, have deadlines to add content to your website and interact with industry news and trends.

Blogging is a great way to gain more traffic as you can add more keywords to your website, making it a bigger target for search engines to find, we wrote a full article on content marketing that explains it in a bit more detail.
